# Lifecycle The CIAM lifecycle. > For the index of this section of the site, see [llms.txt](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/llms.txt) There's a lifecycle for CIAM users: 1. Users must get into your identity store somehow. You can [migrate them to the new system](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/lifecycle/migrate-users.md) if they exist elsewhere, you can create them via APIs or federation, or they must [self-register](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/lifecycle/register-users.md). 2. After users are in the CIAM system, they need to [authenticate, log in or sign in](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/lifecycle/authenticate-users.md) (these all mean the same thing). This includes all manner of authentication methods: * passwordless options such as passkeys and one-time passwords * Identity Providers such as Google or Facebook * SAML and OIDC federation * and more 3. User profile data also needs to be [managed over time](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/lifecycle/manage-users.md). Functionality for this part of the lifecycle includes forms used by customer service reps, self-service account/profile management, searching to extract user data in bulk, and verifying users. 4. Finally, users are sometimes de-provisioned. In FusionAuth this is done by locking user accounts by [deactivating or deleting users](https://4002.18-224-161-104.sslip.io/docs/apis/users/delete.md).
